GREG NEWBOLD

Utah painter Greg Newbold cant remember a time when he didnt draw and paint. From a young age, his supportive parents fueled his desire to create by supplying him with paper paints and clay. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Hartford Art School. After a successful career as an illustrator creating artwork for such notable clients as Simon & Schuster, Random House, Kleenex, Smuckers , Sony Pictures and Harper Collins, Greg is now turning his attention toward galley painting. Greg traces influences from a broad spectrum of artists including regionalist painters such as Maynard Dixon and Thomas Hart Benton to Golden Age illustration favorites N.C. Wyeth, J.C. Leyendecker and Maxfield Parrish. He also draws inspiration from a wide variety of classic painters like Sargent, Waterhouse, Van Gogh and Monet. Newbold is not interested in a true straightforward depiction of nature in his paintings, but enjoys making sometimes subtle, sometimes dramatic changes to the landscape as he interprets his subjects. He likes to edit elements and simplify shapes to increase drama and readability in his work. His goal is to let the viewer observe the world as he sees it.His artistic philosophy is to make the world a more beautiful place through his artwork because Life needs Art It is this spirit that he tries to instill in his paintings.Greg likes to vacation with his family, work on home improvement projects and grow a vegetable garden in the summer. He lives with his wife and children nestled next to the Wasatch mountains near Salt Lake City.
